John
II Fassett served as a law clerk to Associate Justice
Stanley Reed during the 1953-54 term of the Supreme Court.
Mr. Fassett has been associated with the United Illuminating
Company since 1973 where he has served as Chairman of
the Board since 1985. Mr. Fassett is a member of
the Society.
Arthur
J. Goldberg was an Associate Justice of the Supreme
Court of the United States. Prior to his tenure on the
Court, Justice Goldberg was Secretary of Labor, 1961-62;
following retirement from the Court, Justice Goldberg
served as U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., 1965-68. Justice
Goldberg has been in private practice in Washington D.C.
since 1971, and is a member of the Society.
Cornelius
Bryant Kennedy is the Society's Executive Director. He
also serves as counsel for the firm of Armstrong, Teasdale,
Kramer & Vaughan in Washington, D.C. and has written
extensively on constitutional law, public policy law,
and administrative law
Howard
T Markey is Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for
the Federal Circuit and is a member of the Society. Chief
Judge Markey has served as National Coordinator for the
Bicentennial Celebration of the National Judiciary since
1975 and is active in planning for the bicentennial of
the Constitution.
Daniel
J. Meador is the James Monroe Professor of Law
at the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Society
and delivered the Annual Lecture during the Society's
1986 Annual Meeting.
Lewis
E Powell, Jr. is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court
of the United States. Justice Powell is a member of the
Society. Prior to his service on the Court, Justice Powell
was President of the American Bar Association, 1964-65,
and President of the American College of Trial Lawyers,
1968-69.
Paul
Reardon is a former Chief Justice of the Superior Court
of Massachusetts (1955-62), and a former Associate Justice
of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts (1962-77).
He was also the first President and first Executive Director
of the National Center for State Courts and is a member
of the Society.
Justin
A. Stanley is a Sustaining Member of the Society. He is
also a member of the Society's Board of Trustees and serves
on its Executive Committee. Mr. Stanley is a former President
of the American Bar Association (1976-77) and is a partner
in the law firm of Mayer, Brown & Platt, Chicago.
Kenneth
Starr is a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
District of Columbia Circuit and is a member of the Society.
Judge Starr served as a law clerk to Chief Justice Burger,
1975-77 and as a counselor to the Attorney General, U.S.
Department of Justice, 1981-83.
D. Grier
Stephenson, Jr. is a Professor of Government at Franklin
and Marshall College, a co-author of the text, American
Constitutional Law and the author of numerous other
works on that subject. Professor Stephenson is a regular
contributor to the Society's Yearbook.
G.
Edward White is the John B. Minor Professor of Law and
History at the University of Virginia. Professor White
served as a law clerk to Chief Justice Warren, 1971-72.
Among his many published works are: Patterns of American
Legal Thought and The American Judicial Tradition.
His volume in the Oliver Wendell Holmes Devise History
of the Supreme Court of the United States, titled, The
Marshall Court and Cultural Change, 1815-1835 will
be published by MacMillan and Company in October 1987.
