INTRODUCTION
This,
our fifth edition of the Yearbook promises to equal if
not outdo the four previous volumes, it is a rare collection
of scholarly pieces dealing with issues that have confronted
the Supreme Court throughout its 200 year history, and
illustrates outstanding personalities who sat on the High
Court Bench.
I
am happy to inform you that during the past year contracts
with the American Society of Legal Historians, Organization
of American Historians and the American Association of
Law Libraries have introduced a new spirit of cooperation
with these# important organizations. At the same time,
our continuing research project, "The Documentary History
of the Supreme Court 17901800," is progressing well
and promises to be a major contribution to legal history.
May
I take this opportunity to ask you, our members, to urge
your friends to join the Society, and thus promote by
their support the important programs initiated by the
Society.
